Might look like an 80s concept car but this is one serious mouse. Feels great in the hand, features a huge number of buttons that are well placed and usefull and has all of the DPIs you could possibly want (with its 3200DPI laser engine).
In possibly the smartest move from Logitech since strapping an LCD to a keyboard, they have bestowed the G9 with its own limited onboard memory. This means you can finally get rid of the less then stellar Setpoint software in favour of the profiles stored on the mouse itself. This handy feature also allows you to plonk the mouse down on another machine while still being able to splatter opponents with the greatest of ease.
As per the previous G series mice you get the mandatory wide surface area teflon feet, nicely braided and toughulated chord and on-the-fly DPI adjustment buttons (which can be bound to other functions if your like me and wonder who could possibly need 3000 dpi). The buttons are solid and placed in such a fashion as to be accessible when you need them. As a whole the mouse is well designed and enables you to actually use the buttons instad of just having them there for show. Lastly you get the weight system; a set of weights that can be used to ‘tune’ the mouse to your specifications. I found the weights to be a bit of an afterthought on logitechs part in relation to the g5's as they are
- hard to get at – they are located under the grip frame
- Fairly limited in their usage – there are only 4 slots and limited weights.
- For me they made no difference to the mouses handling whilst the G5's weights did make it more solid.
On a final note: Do yourself a favour and get a decent mouse pad if your interested in ANY proper gaming mouse. They all do far far better on a proper surface then they do on a desk veneer.
All in all the best mouse ive used in a long time!.
