Description

Girl-Empowerment at it's best! This is part 3 of a 4-part children's book series empowering girls and teaching young boys to ascribe to true gender equality. All are based on true stories of little girls who against all odds, and during a time when women, African Americans, immigrant Americans, and other minorities were more marginalized than they are today, nevertheless persisted with their sheer Grit to pursue what they love, and along the way shattered all sorts of ceilings, and became America's "First Women To ..." >The editors at CreateSpace Publishing commented: "This book is a fascinating and diverse mix of stories ...with numerous excellent examples and plentiful diversity. ... [The author] has done an excellent job in breaking down some fairly complicated concepts for young readers. ...The book is written at the grade-school level, and [the] structure works marvelously well and builds on itself to create a powerful compendium of accomplished women. ... The tone is straightforward and is enhanced by the use of simple declarative sentences. [The tone] works well for its target audience, which is grade school girls and boys...." >Parents are encouraged to read these books together with their daughters and sons. This book gently skims the surface of the complex and sensitive issues that each girl had to overcome before becoming America's "First Woman to..." and provides an opportunity for all parents to educate their young ones based on the appropriate maturity level as they wish. Each woman is featured in her own chapter with a colorful portrait (at the end of each chapter). This part 3 (of 4) includes: The First-Ever Recipient of the Computer Sciences Person of the Year Award, the First Woman Jockey to Race in the Kentucky Derby, the First Woman to Compete in Both the Indianapolis 500 and the Daytona 500, the First African American Woman US Army General, America's First Female US Supreme Court Justice, America's First Female Astronaut, the First Woman from America to Win an Unshared Nobel Prize in Medicine, the First Woman Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the First Hispanic American Woman Elected to the US Congress, the First Female and First Hispanic US Surgeon General, the First African American Woman Mayor of a Major US City, the First Female Chief Scientist of the US National Oceanic & Atmospheric Association, the First Woman Inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame, the First Female African American US Senator, America's First African American Female Astronaut, the First Hispanic American Female Astronaut, the First Woman US Attorney General, the First African American to Become Surgeon General of the United States, and the First African American Woman to Win a Nobel Prize.
