Description

Twelve-year-old Charlotte suddenly receives a new brother, an ill, orphaned baby who was born into slavehood. She pours out her love of caring for the sick and zeal for freeing the slaves onto the helpless infant. Then, after the American Civil War starts, she is offered a job at a hospital in Pittsburgh. This book is historically accurate, and contains wonderful morals. Enjoy learning, as Charlotte did, the value of serving others, trusting parents, and being a light unto a suffering world.
