This brilliant film shows the battles of Iwo Jima through the eyes of the Japanese. I would not recommend it as a family film, but definitely one for the history books, a great buy for all who cherish history and accuracy

This brilliant film shows the battles of Iwo Jima through the eyes of the Japanese. I would not recommend it as a family film, but definitely one for the history books, a great buy for all who cherish history and accuracy
The companion film to the excellent Flags of Our Fathers, Letters from Iwo Jima lives up to it's pedigree. The writing and production effectively communicate the atmosphere of an impossible task given to a group of doomed men from a dying but defiant empire, and relate the restless churning of the hearts and minds of those there.
The film puts to rest the historical painting of the Japanese as stock villains, giving them a human face with complex degrees of virtue and vice. In fact the acting is so good that you will find yourself tempted to root for the other side! At the very least you'll be left with a deeper understanding of the other side of the story, the Japanese perspective on the war.
Beautifully drawn account that shows the cultural as well as combat struggles of the Japanese forces. Abandoned and ordered to hold the Island to the last man Eastwood captures the conflicts they faced against overwhelming odds.
