Description

For Leduc's first sixty years it was a sleepy rural community that began as a hamlet of 5 people serving the homesteaders and then grew slowly to 920 by 1946. In 1947 Leduc #1 brought forth a new era of growth and rapid change descended on Leduc. By 1951 the population had doubled and that sleepy community with gravel streets began to transform into the city of today. The early years of the 21st Century Leduc remains as one of the fastest growing communities in Alberta. This book explores the first businesses and their owners as Leduc went from a hamlet to a town, and then looks at the downtown business that currently serves the community in the 2020's.

Author Biography:

Author Tom Dirsa grew up on the tip of Cape Cod in Massachusetts. After graduating from university, he moved to Alberta, Canada in 1967, for two years, which became a lifetime. After a successful career as a teacher, basketball coach, and a school administrator that took him and his wife, Margaret, to New England, Saskatchewan, and many communities throughout Alberta, they retired to Leduc, Alberta in 2008. For three years Tom was a freelance reporter for the Pipestone-Flyer newspaper. He wrote a popular series of articles on the history of Leduc and District resulting in working with the Leduc Public Library on an updated history book which has now grown to three volumes. He worked with Red Line Editorial to write the first book in the Beach Street Books series called Canada Turns 150 titled Canada Becomes a Federation. Tom has published a series of children picture books on true incidents involving one of Tom's grandsons who was diagnosed with ADHD early in his life. Tom's books are available on Amazon or Lulu.com
