Author Biography:

Bertha von Suttner (born June 9, 1843, died June, 21 1914). She was a Czech-Austrian pacifist and novelist. In 1905 she was the first woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, thus being the second female Nobel laureate after Marie Curie's 1903 award, and the first Austrian laureate. Her pacifist novel "Die Waffen nieder!" ("Lay Down Your Arms: The Autobiography of Martha von Telling") was first published in German in 1889. It became a great successand establishing Bertha von Suttner as a leading figure in the peace movement
