This is great animation, love the world, characters, themes and story, top notch films. 10/10

"Great film, mixed views on this version."
3 stars"

All in all this like all of this great mans work is a masterpiece and I enjoy watching it but have some “odd” feelings on this version, a re-edit of the 2004 dub where they cut some amusing but sometimes insightful lines and changed the score from the longer version made for the west too the same but shorter Japanese one.

It'd odd I feel this way unlike many but IO find a “direct” translation from Japanese too “insert language here” usually foolish and the fact was I first watched this on the 2004 DVD.

But still it is a film one must watch at least once in their life.

Laputa: Castle in the Sky (Tenkū no Shiro Rapyuta) is a 1986 Japanese animated family adventure film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and is also the first film produced and released by Studio Ghibli.

The Search For The Legendary Floating Castle…

Pazu, an engineer's apprentice finds a young girl, Sheeta floating down from the sky wearing a glowing pendant. Together they discover both are searching for the legendary floating castle Laputa and vow to unravel the mystery of the luminous crystal around her neck. Their quest won't be easy however. There are air pirates, secret agents and astounding obstacles to keep them from the truth – and from each other.

Laputa: Castle in the Sky Movie Reviews

“Castle in the Sky is a superb animated film, graced with good storyline, epic adventure, gripping action sequences, goofy humour… and speaking of which, let's not forget the pirates! In short, it's another classic Miyazaki fantastical tale which won't fail to impress” DVD Times

“I've no idea how one would go about comprising a top 10 of Hayao Miyazaki's best films and put them in order from 10–1 as they are all such magical, beautifully realised and enchanting films that they all just about deserved top marks. This is a testament to Miyazaki's quality as a filmmaker that he is yet to make a duff film and everything he makes is met with the highest expectations. In the case of Laputa: Castle in the Sky, it has such an ingenious concept and such well rounded characters that it's impossible to pick fault and describe it as anything other than a brilliant piece of filmmaking, whether animated or otherwise.”

“Laputa: Castle In The Sky is a well-made whimsical adventure and often beautiful film which will easily charm children and undergrown adults alike. Even when Miyazaki isn't on top form, he's a born entertainer.” 4 out of 5 stars

“Castle in the Sky may not have the thematic complexity of Miyazaki's other films, but it is perhaps his most satisfying in terms of sheer adventure. This is what critics mean when they call far lesser films "rollercoaster rides.” With strong characters and constant surprises, Castle in the Sky is exuberant and ever light on its feet."
