In KINGDOMS, players assume the roles of rival kings trying to increase their wealth by establishing castles across the land. By building castles in the richest regions, you stand to reap the most gold. But build carefully. For those regions may be infested with dragons, trolls, or other hazards that rob your kingdom of riches.
This is another simple-to-learn but deeply satisfying jewel in Knizia's crown. Just pick a tile from the stack and place it on any unoccupied space on the 5 x 6 board. When the board is filled, players' scores are totaled for each row and column. Types of tiles are: (1) Resource tiles, numbered from +1 to +6; (2) Hazard tiles, numbered from -6 to -1; (3) Gold mines, which double the row or column's score; (4) Mountains, which, like black squares on crossword grids, divide their row and column into two parts; (5) Dragon tiles, which nullify resource tiles; and (6) Colored castles, which act as multipliers for the player of that color. Dragons, castles, and gold mines act only on the row and column in which they lie. The highest scoring player after three rounds wins.
