"More Fable 2 than Oblivion"
4 stars"

Review by G.W on 12th February, 2012

With the head designer from Morrowland and Oblivion making this game, i was looking forward to a similar style game – and was a little disappointed.

This game is more “Fable 2” than oblivion, in all ways. Graphic style and game play – but this is not a bad thing. “Reckoning” is a fun and enjoyable game. not overly difficult or complex, and you will be playing like a pro before the very good tutorial finishes (about 1hr)

Fighting is “fable” like, with two weapon buttons, and using timed button taps to perform different moves (which you learn as you level)

Its reviews from IGN 9/10 and GameSpot 7.5/10 (both have video reviews) sum it up nicely – I give it a solid 8.5.

"Pretty.. Pretty... Pretty.. GOOD!"
5 stars"

Review by josh on 17th February, 2012

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is like a breath of fresh air…

After an awesome 180 hours in Tamriel, I was ready to hit some new shores.. and the bright and colourful lands of Amalur were my port of call.

This game has an interesting world, great quests, excellent loot system and some of the best combat this side of Roadhouse.

Some hiccups along the way include some sub-par voice work/lip-sync, side quests are quite boring (stick to main/faction mostly for the best experience) and a few bugs here and there..but not enough to detract from the experience.

If I could give this game a 4 1/2 star rating I would, but since it's a new developer (albeit experienced heads), I will give it the full 5 swinging swords, out of 5.

I bought this game because I generally like RPG's and after playing Skyrim any RPG is going to have to lift the bar to compete with this. Initially I wasnt too impressed but after playing it for a couple of hours amd finding it quite njoyable. Graphics and gameplay are a lot like Fable (which I enjoyed) and to be honest enjoyment factor for me is what its all about not the science of graphics, interface and plot.. Enjoy the game for what it is and dont try to analyse too much

"You don't need to re-invent the wheel, it just has to roll"
4 stars"

Review by Graeme on 4th August, 2012

Having played this for a good while I am super happy & impressed with this game. There isn't anything new or revolutionary in this game but what it has used it has used well & it has concerntrated on making sure everything works & works well.

The Combat is freakin awesome & I find myself looking forward to getting into fights so I can rip out daggers spells & bow & arrow. Its all simple to pick up but differcult to master, my ideal combat if ever there was.

The armour all looks pretty badass as the weapons do & the world is nice & bright if a lil cartoony, like World of Warcraft but in a good way.

I am looking forward to sinking alot of time into Amalur & finding out all the history

"Worth full price!"
5 stars"

Review by kane on 15th July, 2012

I see this game often on here going cheap, and because i am a little stingy brought it one of the times it was at its cheapest. I am glad that i did, The main quest plus throw in a few side quest is easily about 60 hours of gameplay.

There are skills to level up like any other RPG game, it has fast travel too. I've seen reviews saying it doesnt have the most engrossing storyline however i found myself always wanting to be The Good Guy, when given the chance to make a good or bad decision. So i am going to disagree with that statement.

Buy this instead of any of the newer Fables.

An open-world action RPG, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is set in Amalur, a rich and deeply immersive world underpinned by 10,000 years history, created by 22 time New York Times bestselling author, R.A. Salvatore.

“..Reckoning proves once and for all that great role-playing experiences don't have to sacrifice what matters most in any game – gameplay – while still remaining true to all of the minutiae that makes the best RPGs great.” 9/10 – IGN

Immersing players in a rich, living, breathing open-world dripping with magic and rife with danger, underpinned by strong storytelling, Reckoning lets players define their destiny as they engage in intense action combat while exploring the huge, vibrant and varied world of Amalur as envisioned by the visionary creator of Spawn and acclaimed artist, Todd McFarlane.

  • Intense Action Combat in an RPG – Create your own unique combat style, choosing from among nine different melee weapon classes and dozens of devastating spells in Reckoning's unique Action Magic combat system. Eradicate your enemies in grand fight sequences featuring brutal Fateshift finishing moves that will redefine visceral RPG combat.
  • Open World RPG Design Led by Ken Rolston – Play your way through 60+ hours of riveting storyline, diverse side quests, and open-world exploration created by RPG gurus Ken Rolston (Lead Designer, Morrowind, Oblivion), Creative Director Mark Nelson (Lead Designer, Shivering Isles; Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3), and Lead Designer Ian Frazier (Titan Quest).
  • Rich Fiction and Storytelling by R.A. Salvatore- Reckoning is set in the Kingdoms of Amalur universe and its 10,000 years of deep fiction created by 22-time New York Times bestselling author R.A. Salvatore.
  • Art and Action Directed by Todd McFarlane – Brought to life through the direction of renowned Spider-Man artist Todd McFarlane, creator of Spawn and Founder of Image Comics, Reckoning brings you intense action combat, hordes of gruesome enemies, and beautifully realized fantasy vistas.

Millions of combinations of weapons and armor allow you complete the character that looks and plays the way you've always hoped.

“…I'll come right out and say it: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will be discussed when Game of the Year 2012 rolls around. It has brought the conversation about what combat can be in the role-playing genre to the forefront and sets the bar exceptionally high for its future contemporaries in the genre. But don't let its competition-shaming gameplay lull you into think that that's all this game has to offer, because that's just gloss on an overall package that's bound to impress the RPG faithful. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning isn't the perfect game. Its random technical hiccups and inconsistent art style certainly holds it back from even higher levels of greatness. But no matter what you're looking for, whether it be amazing gameplay, immersive storytelling or perhaps a riveting new world to explore as you fully customize and re-customize your character at will, Reckoning has it all. And after I jump back into my own game to clean up all of the optional stuff I didn't do, I sense I'll want even more. And yes, so will you.” 9/10 – IGN

“..Deep, polished gameplay wrapped around an interesting and engulfing universe with all of the bells and whistles RPG and action game lovers crave spread across enough content to keep you busy for months.” Gaming Nexus

“…Though it leans a little too heavily on well-trod genre conventions, there's no denying that Reckoning has a whole lot to offer in terms of sheer breadth. Similarly, though the challenge tapers off dramatically toward the end, its combat is welcoming, gratifying, and hypnotic.” 82/100 Game Trailers

“…If you love any or all of the following – RPGs, rich fantasy worlds, action games – Reckoning is a rich action RPG with a deep narrative, even deeper character customization, and plenty of content right out of the box. Go get this game.” Team Xbox
