As far as 2d beat em up action goes on the trusty old PS2, its hard to go past KOFXI. While its retro charms may not immediately appeal to the Tekken/Soul Calibur/Virtua Fighter set, those who take the plunge will be treated to a glorious, well balanced and skilled fighting game.
If you're a fan of 2D fighting games, this is a great choice. It's character selection has a nice line-up though there hasn't been any HUGE improvements on the spirits. There are a few parts where the translations are a bit awkward but nothing big enough to affect your enjoyment of the game. There is a color edit mode that is just fun to play with. It even lets you change the color of your attack effects. The new battle systems such as the leader system and the dream cancel system are cool and makes KOF XI interesting.
Overall, it's a great, well balanced game. It has a few faults here and there but then again, what game doesn't have that?
Fresh from the arcades, King of Fighters XI is the latest instalment of the coveted King of Fighters series, and takes the franchise to a new level.
The world has been rocked by two major events - Mukai has stolen the Orochi seal and the theft of the Yata Mirror by Ash Crimson. Just as the dust had settled, a new King of Fighters tournament was announced - a tournament which brings together some familiar faces, as well as new comers to the world of King of Fighters.
Not all is what it seems in this new tournament. There are too many unanswered questions. Too many mixed objectives!
