Then you should see this next Ghibli film since the main character, Kiki, reminds me of a matured “Satsuki” version from Totoro. Well anyway, this Ghibli film is about a adolescent young girl who is seeking independence & finding work in a foreign city in order to gain more experience as an young teen & a witch as well.

"Amazing puberty parable"

Very deep and well written film that delivers in lots of ways. A great story that expresses the angst and confusion as kids become young adults replacing natures puberty with fantasies magic.

The film tells the story of a young girl who is imbued abilities that as she becomes a teen begins to lose her magic abilities and has to deal with it in the same way we change and have to deal with things as we become adults. Really touching stuff.

Discover Kiki’s Delivery Service, a fantastic coming-of-age tale full of magic, adventure, and self-discovery from the sensational imagination of Academy Award–winning director Hayao Miyazaki (2002, Best Animated Feature, Spirited Away).

Kiki is an enterprising young girl who must follow tradition to become a full-fledged witch. Venturing out with only her chatty black cat, Jiji, Kiki flies off for the adventure of a lifetime. Landing in a far-off city, she sets up a high-flying delivery service and begins a wonderful experience of independence and responsibility as she finds her place in the world.

Kiki's Delivery Service Reviews

“Like all of Hayao Miyazaki's films, Kiki's Delivery Service illustrates how misleading (and ignorant) it is to lump all anime together as abrasive kiddie fare or shameless sensationalism. Kiki's Delivery Service is a wonderful story that captivates and inspires. With the qualification that it probably won't sit well with those who object to Harry Potter or Bewitched, I recommend this wholeheartedly to families looking for alternative entertainment to the loud, lumbering cartoons on American television. Kids will surely love this film, and it's just as likely to touch the hearts of adult viewers too.” At a Glance Film Reviews

“Delightful music, compelling characters, heartfelt emotion, and a realistic plot make for an outstanding animated experience. Kiki's Delivery Service is an exemplary anime movie with a superb DVD treatment. I have given this title very high marks in all categories, even though I don't consider it Miyazaki's best work. That should indicate the respect due to any title by Studio Ghibli. If they've produced a dud, I have yet to see it.” DVD Verdict

“This movie is breathtakingly beautiful. It's messages about responsibility, self-reliance and tolerance are made all the more powerful by their quiet, subtle delivery…This is a drama–a delightful coming-of-age story that is presented with such reverence that it puts other children's movies to shame. It is proof that a movie doesn't have bash children over the head with its messages, or dazzle them into learning its lessons…I'm giving the movie an ‘A,’ without the ‘+,’ simply because it won't appeal to everybody. Toddlers and pre-schoolers may not be able to sit still through a movie with such a quiet, languid pace. And pre-teen boys may not like it because it is, after all, a story about (eww!) a girl. Parents, however, will love Kiki's Delivery Service. I cried during this movie. It wasn't during a manipulative Simba's-dad-just-died type of moment, but rather during a moment of absolute stillness.”
