I have thought that too much stress can not be made in impressing moral sentiment upon education, busi ness, society, and individual experience, and upon that idea I have ventured to print these pages. They are written mainly in a style to meet the requirements of a platform effort, and yet, I hope that whatever lack of gentle continuity may appear in them will not detract from the force of the truths which I have eu deavored to express. My purpose is to aid in under mining the despotism of the material, and in advanc ing the sway of the ideal and moral. I know in what narrow limits my little effort is confined, and yet I trust I will be justified in doing the best I can in a field that is calling for stronger workers. I may say, also, aside from my real intention in publishing these pages, I am not unmindful of the kind opinion of many who heard the addresses, expressed in urgent.
