Description

- Are you a healthcare professional who feels ill-equipped to support your clients trapped in drug or alcohol addiction? - Does the mention of your client's addiction cause you to immediately refer them on, never seeing them again? - Do you want a compact, evidence-based resource guaranteed to give you confidence to support your clients to achieve freedom from addiction? If you're a psychologist, social worker, nurse or counselor and you answered 'yes' to any of the above questions, this book is for you. In this unique, practical handbook, mental health nurse and addiction specialist Tania Kelly translates her clinical experience into an easy, how-to guide, designed to fit into your busy professional life. Tania explains the 12 proven fundamentals of drug and alcohol treatment, to give you the confidence you need to successfully treat addiction. You'll also learn the principles of addiction and interventions, so you are fully equipped to support your client throughout their recovery journey. Set out in a way that allows you to revisit topics on demand when you need them the most, this book is the perfect desk-side companion in your practice. So, are you ready to Keep Calm and Treat Addiction? The first step in reducing stigma around alcohol and drug use is normalising conversations about our relationship with these substances. Tania has created a must-read guide for clinicians and service providers to assist in this process, packed full of techniques, strategies and practical guidance on how to work with clients wishing to address their alcohol or drug use. I recommend Keep Calm and Treat Addiction for anyone wanting to better understand evidence-based addiction treatment philosophy. Chris Raine, Founder & CEO of Hello Sunday Morning Tania has written a very informative book on addiction and the associated behaviours incurred. The book is a wonderful resource for AOD practitioners and also for people wanting further knowledge and understanding in this field. It is clearly written, easy to understand and includes good examples throughout. Highly recommended. Josette Freeman, Senior National Program Manager, SMART Recovery Australia

Tania Kelly, was born in Mount Isa, in outback Queensland, but was raised on the coast in Bundaberg. In 2009, Tania, her husband Paul and their three children moved to Mackay, in beautiful North Queensland. They now call themselves locals and enjoy exploring the many natural environments of this amazing part of Australia they live in. As a Mental Health Nurse and Tobacco Treatment Specialist, Tania has experience in facilitating both face to face and online groups. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing and is an authorised SMART Recovery Facilitator. Tania's diverse nursing career started in 1989 and has included peri-operative, community, general practice, nursing education, adolescent health, project management, mental health and addiction nursing. In 2013 she discovered a passion for supporting people in their mental health and addiction journeys. This has let to the establishment of her own nurse-led clinic, Tania Kelly Health Consultant in Mackay. In addition to private practice, her counselling experience spans across a variety of treatment environments inclusive of inpatient, outreach and community-based settings. As a senior clinician, Tania constantly shares the concepts outlined in this book with health service providers. Tania wants to demystify addiction treatment, and equip others inclusive of psychologists, social workers, nurses, doctors, allied health professionals, counsellors, youth workers, support workers and chaplains (to name a few) to feel confident in working with their current client base who are struggling with addiction. Ultimately, it is Tania's desire to increase the access of evidence based support for those struggling with addiction.
