Description

In January 1943, the Office of War Information's photography unit, headed by Roy Stryker, who had earlier overseen the photography division of the Farm Security Administration, sent Jack and Irene Delano to Chicago, Illinois, to document the impact of defense mobilization Chicago's massive railroad yards and stations. Jack focused his efforts on Union Station, a large facility that was not yet 20 years old, and the last of the great passenger depots. His work is assembled into a series of photo essays in this volume, part of a series of books bringing the work of the vast FSA/OWI documentary project to a modern audience.
