The average Italian infantrymen were conscripts with little enthusiasm for Fascist expansionism. However, they found themselves fighting hard in many theatres of World War II, far from home, and in extreme climates.
The Italian Army's equipment was somewhat outdated, if reliable, and the officer class were often careless with their men's conditions. Despite all of this, the Italian infantry fought very hard at times, and when in prepared positions, famously difficult to oust.
The squad used fire and manoeuvre tactics with the Breda light machine gun being the section's main firepower.
