My name is Una Case. I was born on the island of Jamaica, West Indies. My primary education took place in Jamaica. In 1967 I migrated to the USA to confront a vastly different culture and educational system. Despite many challenges, I went on to earn a degree in nursing. I proudly served in the U.S. Army for twenty years. I am one of thirteen children birthed by parents who were overcomers. I inherited that overcoming spirit. However, there were life experiences that left me with negative memories and emotions. These had to be purged from my life. I strove to first understand and then, by God's grace, to release these feelings of distrust and anger that I had harbored for years. Twenty one years ago, I started writing poems. They are an expression of experiences, people, and situations that have had an impact on my life. My hope is that those who read these poems will be encouraged in their own struggles.
