As Patrick Brady and his new wife begin their foray into the world of foster parenting, Patrick is hired by the agency's administrator to locate his wayward daughter. She is relatively safe and sound but comes seeking Patrick's help after her boyfriend dies of a drug overdose in a back alley. At the same time, Bill Bleecker, a member of the Masonic fraternity who has been accused of embezzling funds from his Lodge, comes to Patrick and demands his help in clearing his name and proving his innocence. Already on a tight timetable, Patrick juggles these cases in an adventure that takes him from an Upstate drug den to the hallowed halls of Grand Lodge in New York City. Even his very life may be threatened as he struggles to maintain his principles in the face of adversity, and questions if parenthood is really all it's cracked up to be in this seventh installment of the Patrick Brady series.
