Author Biography

Hirofumi Akagi is Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, where he teaches power electronics. He was elected as a Fellow of the IEEE in 1996, and as a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Industry Applications and Power Electronics Societies for 1998?1999. He was the recipient of both the IEEE William E. Newell Power Electronics Award in 2001 and the IEEE Industry Applications Society Outstanding Achievement Award in 2004. Edson Hirokazu Watanabe is Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), where he teaches power electronics. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and has published papers in IEEE Transactions and IEE Proceedings. In 2005, he was admitted to the National Order of Scientific Merit (Brazil). Mauricio Aredes is Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), where he teaches power electronics. He has published more than twenty peer-reviewed journal papers and eighty in conference proceedings.
