Author Biography:

Sidi Shaykh Muhammad al-Jamal ar-Rifa'i ash-Shadhuli is a Sufi master in the Shadhiliyya Sufi tradition. Affectionately known as "Sidi" by his many students, Sidi dedicates his life to bringing love, peace, mercy, justice and freedom to all pepole everywhere. Sidi has millions of students around the world, many of them in Jerusalem and the Holy Land, Africa, Europe and the Americas. For 40 years Sidi Muhammad worked as a court judge, consistently helping to keep peace between the people of Jerusalem. Sidi has also been a teacher and central figure at the al-Aqsa Mosque for many years. He gives weekly sermons at the mosque and has helped preserve this holy place of worship. In July 2007 Sidi was instrumental in opening a new kindergarten in Jerusalem. This kindergarten has thrived over the last few years due to Sidi's fundraising efforts. Now, there are more than 200 children who attend and for those in need, attendance is free. Not only does Sidi open his doors to all children who wish to attend, during these difficult financial times he also provides food, money and clothing to his students' families, enabling the school to serve the Jerusalem community even more deeply. Sidi makes monthly journeys all over the Holy Land to help the poor and to make sure that everyone has food and clothing. There are always lines of people at his home and at his office, because they know he will provide the help they need. Even the birds gather where he walks on his route from home to work because they know he will feed them! Several years ago. Sidi opened a Sufi Center in an old building on the road to Jericho which holds the Prophet Moses' tomb, may the peace and blessings of God be upon him. This center became the head of the Sufi operations of aid. It has been used to rehabilitate drug users and dealers, and it is a place people in need can go for help. Sidi opens his heart to help everyone from any country or nationality, and he has helped thousands of people all over the world. He has students and followers in the Holy Land, Africa, Europe and the Americas. In 1994 he made his first visit to America, and has continued to come each year to give seminars and teachings at schools and centers across the United States. Usually, he comes in the summer and stays between 3-6 months. Contact the Shadhiliyya Sufi Center if you interested in obtaining Sidi's summer teaching schedule.
