Description

Historical Dictionary of Schopenhauers Philosophy presents a narrative that weaves the significant events of Arthur Schopenhauers life within the greater fabric of his life. It enables readers to better understand the highlights of his life by placing them in a context that grounds them in areas of less brightness. The chronology lists the significant events of his life, the introductory essay provides an overview of his philosophical thought and his belief that philosophy was the purpose of his life, and the more than dictionary entries review Schopenhauers key ideas, concepts, doctrines, and the philosophical figures related to his thought. A comprehensive bibliography provides a listing of the most frequently cited German collected editions of Schopenhauers work, significant German primary source materials, English translations of Schopenhauers books, and English-language collections of essays drawn from Schopenhauers Oeuvre. This engaging work opens the door to a better understanding of Schopenhauers philosophy for readers of all levels.
