The Halo 3: Legendary Edition is a must-get for any Halo fan. The game itself is superb. Gameplay is at Halo's signiture best as always, the controls are fluid and balanced. Graphics are not the best on Xbox 360, but the chief himself looks great. Too bad about some of the other character models… At least the environments are very well done. The sound is perfect. The voice acting is great and the music is epic as always. Multiplayer is, of course, the drawcard for this game, as there are hundreds of thousands of players online at any one time, and great maps, modes, and ranks to keep you occupied.
The game comes packed with two discs of bonus content. There is an Xbox game disc with an extensive “making of” documentary and heaps of bonuses. Every extra has been made with loving attention to detail. A DVD has, amongst other things, every cutscene from Halo 1 and 2, plus audio commentary. These are a great resource for fans who want to see the story of the first two games presented in a cinematic manner, without having to play through the games again.
The main thing you will notice about the legendary edition is the Spartan Helmet. Bungie claimed that it was “Cat head size”. Make no mistake, this is no cat helmet, it is much bigger than I expected and very detailed. The rest of the packaging is mostly excellent. The one gripe I have is that amongst all this presentation, someone has forgotten the game case itself! It is just a plain black case that could have been made a little fancier. Overall, however, if you fork out the extra money for this edition, you will not be dissapointed. And, your disc won't be scratched like in the notorious collectors edition!
