Te Hamua is a singer/song writer, guitarist and music producer. He is also an inspirational and heartfelt speaker and an entertaining MC and TV host. Te Hamua's philosophy is that music can heal anything… Add a Maori flavour to it and the sky is the limit!
“Music, the stage and television are the perfect vehicles for me to get my thoughts and whakapono out there… ko te waiata me te puoro tetahi reo e mohiotia ana e te ao whanui, ahakoa no hea te tangata.”
All of the lessons Te Hāmua learnt as a child through his musical upbringing came to a head when he met Aotearoa's God-Father of Hip-Hop, Darryl “DLT” Thomson in 1999 when he was assigned as the musical mentor to Te Hāmua in his rookie year as a presenter on “TŪMEKE” which was later on re-named “PUKANA”.
It was during these years that the child-hood dreams of one day doing his own album, all of a sudden became something that COULD quite possibly become a REALITY, and the idea for “Haati: He Ao Ātaāhua, Tipuna Intended” was conceived.
Haati: He Ao Ātaāhua, Tipuna Intended
The theme of this album is the BEAUTY of being Māori, of being part of “te iwi rangatira o Aotearoa” according to Te Hāmua. It is a mix of Reggae, RnB and Hip-Hop the three genres of music that Te Hāmua, and just about EVERY Māori absolutely LOVE, for their rhythms, harmonies, messages timeless sound.
The songs range from karakia/prayer to political statements, love songs to words of encouragement for children… Te Hāmua's belief is that there is something for EVERYONE on this album, whether it be MESSAGE or BEAT based… EVERYONE will find relevance somewhere.
