I have a lot of games, and in my opinion Guild Wars is my favourite. The Platinum Edition gives you two key games in the GW series. You'll start you're adventures in Tyria and from there on in, the choice is your as to what you want to do. The Eye of the North provides some of the best skills in the game and also the most helpful, along with heroes so PVE is a lot more entertaining and less frustrating. These two games have kept me playing for over a year!
I recommend this game to all Action RPG fans or those who are looking for something a little different.

"Frustrating but well worth the effort"

I could almost give this game an excellent rating but for a few issues I have with the game. PROS = Terrific graphics and eye candy throughout the game. Great main quest, even if it gets way hard in some places. A multitude of side quests will keep you busy as, as well. I usually hate doing quests on games, but this is the first game that I have really enjoyed, most times, doing quests. The rewards are commensurate with the quest. So if the reward is really good; then the job will be just as hard to achieve. Even if you have a full set of heroes and henchmen helping you, plus pet, some are beyond me, at this time. The makes have factored a lot of elements into this game, but when in a fight and you are busy as trying to survive a large group of mobs, who has time to start looking at what spells or hexes have been applied by the mobs. Let alone run through your spell bar and counter it. And if you dispel hexes, the mob replaces it at the same time and you have wait for your spell to regenerate before you can use it again. I have found the game to be well balanced for any profession you decide for your character, and having a choice of a 2nd profession is a real bonus.

CON = Mobs can use magic attacks from outside your range, which is a real pain. If you are a healer you need to be within range of the henchman/heroes you wish to heal. Most times this draws you close enough for mobs to attack you, which they ALL tend to do at the same time.

There is a deplorable lack of helps/hints/tutorial at the beginning and throughout this game. Thank goodness for other gamers being nice and helpful. My hat is off to them;thank you. One upgrade gives you an item that allows you to summon a Fire Imp. Great, terrific, wonderful, but once you reach level 20 you also lose that ability. And nothing is said about that side of things until after you purchase the upgrade. You do reach level 20 easily too. I took about 60 hours game play to reach it.

I do recommend that getting some of the upgrades at the right time is worth the extra $'s as well. Do not allow the lack of info in and about this game put you off getting it. Frustrating it can be, but if you like Sacred or Sacred 2, then this is the next step upwards. And a better step up could not be taken.

Description

This pack contains both the original Guild Wars plus the latest expansion pack, Guild Wars: Eye of the North.

Guild Wars...

Guild Wars takes place in a fantasy world, where guilds of characters of a wide range of professions can make a mark on history. The reason we chose the fantasy realm is that we wanted a place that was instantly familiar to gamers, and also one that offers us near-limitless opportunities for new and exciting types of friends and foes. Like the evolving worlds of Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo that we helped to build over the years, we're creating a new place that we believe you'll want to visit over and over.

Guild Wars: Eye of the North...

As the story of this expansion unfolds, players will delve into eighteen vast dungeons to face untold enemies, search for clues about the menace facing the world, and uncover new weapons they can use in the final confrontation. These immersive, multi-level dungeons will take characters deep beneath the earth and expose them to challenges the likes of which have never been seen in any Guild Wars game to date.

Heroes are born in the crucible of conflict and tempered in the flames of battle. Their deeds shine throughout history as a beacon of hope to those who must rise to defend the world in ages to come, becoming part of the legend of the land. The legends forged within Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, and the Eye of the North will not be forgotten in the future world of Guild Wars 2.

Your deeds from the original Guild Wars campaigns will be commemorated in the Eye of the North expansion in your Hall of Monuments. The Hall of Monuments will reflect the achievements you earn in Eye of the North as well as those earned in Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall. You will even be able to show off your hall to friends. Then, when Guild Wars 2 arrives, each of these monuments will correspond to special features your Guild Wars 2 characters can "inherit" from your own legendary past, giving you access to exclusive titles, companions (Heroes and pets), weapons, attire, and miniatures. These inherited items are unique: there is no other way within Guild Wars 2 to acquire them.

Features:
  • Tons of new content designed exclusively for your existing Guild Wars characters
  • 18 huge, multi-level dungeons to explore
  • Monuments of your Guild Wars achievements that give access to special items and titles in Guild Wars 2
  • 150 new skills (50 of which are special, roleplaying-only skills) to use against your foes
  • 10 new Heroes to help you in your adventures
  • 40 new armor sets suitable for the great heroes of the land
  • A first look at three of the exciting new playable races in Guild Wars 2
  • Numerous new items, weapons, and titles to attain
