Description

This book covers the entire spectrum of green diesel and their applications in existing CI engines. This book discusses how a green diesel is a better fuel than biodiesel and petrodiesel and more suitable fuels for sustainable future development. The book begins with a concise overview of the fundamentals of the green diesel properties, preparation, and characterization of green diesel using hydroprocessing technology. The book covers recent developments in the domain of green diesel derived particularly from the second-/third-generation feedstocks. Various topics covered in this book include the catalysts involved in the processing of green diesel, characterization of the products as per ASTM/EN protocols. In addition, the book also illustrates characteristic features of green diesel and how it is different from biodiesel and petrodiesel. Other chapters cover performance and emission characteristics of green diesel in CI engines and techno-economic analysis. Moreover, the current status of green diesel industries is also incorporated. This book is of particular interest to graduate students and academic or industrial researchers/professionals working in the area of green diesel/green energy, bioenergy and mechanical, automobile, and chemical engineering. This book makes a forceful foundation for the establishment of green diesel refineries/biorefineries for a sustainable, cleaner, and greener future.

Author Biography:

Dr. Mohammad Aslam is Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, National Institute of Technology (Ministry of Education, Government of India), Srinagar (India). He obtained his first Master’s degree in “Industrial Chemistry” from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, followed by Master’s degree in “Fuels and Combustion” from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (Ranchi), Jharkhand (India). Later, he was awarded doctorate from National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar (India), for his dissertation entitled, “Hydroprocessing of seed oils into transportation fuels". He also worked as Post-Doctoral Fellow/Research Associate in Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bioenergy (An Autonomous Institution of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India). He has more than 15 years of academic and research experience. His current research is focusing on green fuels derived from second-/third-generation feedstocks and their application to transportation sectors. He has established a biofuels research laboratory in the Department of Chemistry, NIT Srinagar, India.  Dr Shrikant Shivaji Maktedar is Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, National Institute of Technology (Ministry of Education, Government of India), Srinagar, J&K, India. He received B.Sc. degree in Chemistry from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad (Maharashtra), and M.Sc. degree in Physical Chemistry from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad (Maharashtra). He has completed his Ph.D. from Central University of Gujarat, Gandhinagar, India. In the last 10 years, he has been working in the field of carbonaceous materials with emphasis on their multifunctional applications. He has published more than 10 research publications in peer-reviewed international journals of repute, one book chapter, and two full length conference papers. He has served as the reviewer for a few international journals of repute. After his joining to NIT Srinagar, he is serving a Ph.D. Supervisor and has established materials research laboratory at Department of Chemistry.  Dr. Anil Kumar Sarma is Scientist-E/Director at Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bioenergy (Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India), Punjab, India. He is M.Tech. in Energy Technology (2002) and Ph.D. in Energy from Tezpur University (2006). He remains Guest Faculty at Tezpur University, Research Associate at IIT Guwahati (2007-2008), Visiting Researcher at Seikei University, Japan (2008-2009), joined and left from Faculty at RGIPT before joining his present position at Sardar Swaran Singh National institute of Bioenergy. He has been working as Scientist at SSS-NIBE since July 2009. He has been rendering his duty as Head of Office at SSS-NIBE and Coordinator for Indo-US collaboration under sage. He delivered invited lectures in several platforms such as training programs and conferences of national and international stature.
