The word ‘symphony’ is used to describe an ex- tended orchestral composition in Western classical music. Beginning as musical interludes between operas or concertos, it eventually came to be regarded by many as the yardstick by which one would measure a composer’s achievement. This collection includes famous symphonies from Ber- lioz, Brahms, Mahler, Bruckner, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Schumann, Strauss, Dvořák, Franck and Saint-Saëns.
