Description

Geology and Natural Resources of Nigeria is an up‑to‑date and comprehensive overview of the geological framework of the continental crust of Nigeria, its evolution, and the natural resources it holds. It covers a wide set of topics and provides a detailed description of the rock units of the Nigerian continental crust, their geological settings and structural characteristics, and the potential of their mineral, energy, and water resources. The book discusses the impact of geo‑resources on the Nigerian economy, includes recommendations on how to fully exploit geo‑resources, and explains how to prevent geological processes that could lead to natural hazards. FEATURES Provides different aspects of the Nigerian continental crust from a multidisciplinary approach Draws on the latest findings in geoscience research to present new insights and perspectives into the development and resource potential of the Nigerian continental crust Includes multiple case studies to illustrate the exploration and evaluation of the geological resources of Nigeria Explores the potential of geological resources for economic and industrial development Presents scientific achievements of authors and researchers from various disciplines and provides recommendations for mitigating natural hazards This handbook is intended for industry professionals, academics, researchers, and students studying earth sciences with a special interest in Africa and learning how its geology impacts the natural resources and overall economy of the continent.

Author Biography:

Silas S. Dada earned a BSc in geology at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria; an MSc in mineral exploration at the University of Ife, Nigeria; a DEA in tectonics, geophysics, and geochemistry; and a PhD in isotope geochemistry at the University of Science and Technology, Montpellier. He is a Certified Geoscientist (COMEG‑GEM00156), a member of the European Association of Geochemists, and a Fellow of many professional societies and associations, including the Association of Applied Geochemists, Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), Nigerian Association of Engineering Geology and Environment, and Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers. Professor Dada is bilingual in English and French, and he combines Precambrian research with mineral exploration with over 60 impactful publications. With more than 40 years of experience in a variety of geological terrains in mineral exploration, research supervision at the PhD level, and several research publications, he leads a team of dynamic professional geoscientists to embark on this book project via Dasil Geoconsults, a consultancy group that is equally interested in the diffusion of geoscience knowledge. Samuel B. Olobaniyi earned a BSc, an MSc, and a PhD at the Department of Geology and Mineral Sciences, University of Ilorin, Nigeria. He is a member of several professional organizations, such as the Society for Geology Applied to Mineral Deposits and Fellow of the NMGS. He has been Head of the Department of Geology at Delta State University, Abraka, and at the University of Lagos at various times. He has been a consultant on several exploration projects, both in the oil and solid mineral industries, and an author or co‑author of over 50 scholarly articles in national and international journals, chapters in books, and conference proceedings. He is the Associate Editor of Journal of Mining and Geology and co‑editor of the book Five Decades of Oil Production in Nigeria: Impact on the Niger Delta. He is currently a member of the Board of Regents, Covenant University, Ota, Nigeria. Kamaldeen O.L. Omosanya is a distinguished geoscientist with over 17 years of experience in diverse geological and geophysical data analysis, resource exploration, and innovative environmental solutions. Kamal earned a PhD in earth sciences at Cardiff University (United Kingdom), an MSc in structural geology with geophysics at the University of Leeds (United Kingdom), and a BSc in earth sciences at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago‑Iwoye (Nigeria). Additionally, he has several diplomas and certificates in computer studies; business management; energy transition; health, safety, and environment; data analytics; and international leadership at reputable institutions and universities in Europe, the United States, and Asia.
