I was hooked on Fringe right from the start, so when I saw that I could get it on Blu Ray I grabbed it (and I've just ordered the second season so I can re-watch that all over again too).
I see the X-Files comparison a lot for this show, which was my immediate impression of it as well, but I think it's actually smarter than the X-Files, and most likely due to JJ Abrams it's actually like X-Files meets Alias, which is one of my other favourite TV shows.
John Noble is fantastic as Walter Bishop, he never fails to make me laugh in every episode with his whimsical and offbeat musings. He recently one an award for this role which was very well deserved, he's brilliant.
If you've never checked out Fringe before and you'd like to see something different, I definitely recommend giving it a go, just remember to keep an open mind, as this show really pushes some boundaries that some people might find difficult to swallow.
Throughout the series there are major plot twists and later on things get even more interesting when the show starts delving into a central storyline involving all the main characters, not just the monster of the week type deal. If you're anything like me, the very last scene of the final episode of this season will have you scrambling to get your hands on season two.
One note on the authoring of the discs – as far as I can tell the only way to access the episode list menu is by starting an episode on the disc (the episodes begin playing in order as soon as I insert the disc to my player) and then bringing up the pop up menu, otherwise the discs default to the special features menu, which confused me for quite some time before I figured it out.
