Description

This is the work which first made known the genius of Friedrich Nietzsche to not only the Scandinavian culture but, indirectly, to the whole world. It is difficult to say how long it would have had taken for Nietzsche's writings to find their place in philosophy had it not been for Georg Brandes' lectures on Nietzsche, given 1888. In the late 1880s, Brandes began to concentrate on "great personalities" as the source of culture. In this period, he discovered and recognized, much to his own credit, the value of Nietzsche. At the time, Brandes had shown his fascination with man's genius already by having written a highly-acclaimed study of William Shakespeare and, further in time, through the biographies of Wolfgang Goethe, Francois de Voltaire, Gaius Julius Caesar and Michelangelo. Georg Brandes' "Friedrich Nietzsche" makes perhaps the ideal introduction to Nietzsche's life and work as well as allows the Reader to get a better understanding of the impact and originality of Nietzsche at the time he was writing. This is a unique edition, it contains: *additional content: at the end of the book, the Reader will find the lecture by one of Brandes's contemporaries, Prof. Harald Hoeffding. It was given in 1902 at the University of Copenhagen; it offers an alternative perspective. *formatting improvements. Please note: our edition is beautifully formatted, with easy-to-read fonts; it is a joy to hold in your hand.
