This story really got to me. It's the story of an incestuous relationship between a brother and sister, which in most cases I would find appalling and profoundly disturbing. In this story, it is just sad. This is one of those stories that will stick with you long after you have read it. While this is obviously a taboo and sickening subject, I found while reading this that I hoped they could find a way to be together, that they would find out that one of them was adopted. In the end they were just victims of abuse by a father who left them a long time ago and a mother who could not be bothered by them. I never blamed them for falling in love, I blamed the parents who neglected them, who were supposed to love and support them which ultimately brought them together and into a forbidden love affair. There has never before been a book like Forbidden in YA literature. Tabitha Suzuma has written an unconventional love story so powerful it will suck you under, suffocate you, and force you to rethink all that you thought about love and relationships.
