"Different from the usual but a must buy for fans."
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Final Fantasy: Crisis Core isn't a turn-based RPG as what most are used to. The battle system is a combination of hack ‘n’ slash with magic and luck-based summons. This does not make it less of a strategy game though. A well timed dodge and choice of magic can make the difference.

The CG cut scenes are stunning and so is the voice acting and soundtrack. There are many side missions to do at any time through the game and offers many hours of gameplay if you like to fully complete a game otherwise the main story may be a little too short.

If you are a Final Fantasy fan then I would recommend buying this just for the story. The gameplay is just a bonus.

Just a side-note. People may say that leveling up is random and it would seem that way however there is an experience system (you just don't see it). This isn't a big deal anyway as you will notice that you will level up often.

"Worthwhile"

Okay, this game is REALLY different to the other Final fantasies, if you would compare this to past games it would be somewhere close to FFXII

To start, This game Has GREAT graphics and and EXCELLENT Soundtrack, the music fits well with situations and the graphics are outstanding at square enix Standard

Another Really really postive thing is, Voice acting The voices in this game are well suited to each character bringing forth the full personality of everyone of them, letting you become more involved to see how things turn out.

and gameplay Combat, This is thing that makes and breaks crisis core, It is SO much different to the old turn based ATB System that some people have not been happy with it, Its alot like Kingdom hearts where you run around either dodging, guarding, attacking or casting magic, The difference is a system called DMW (Digital Mind Wave) Its a reel which continues to spin at the expense of soldier points which you can earn by defeatring enemies

It is a 3 reel slot which shows the faces of the characters you have met, next to these characters are numbers, you have to either get a set of 3 or 2 pairs before something amazing or not so amazing happens, the faces determine limit breaks while the numbers determine level ups, Its fun to watch sometimes and is really helpful when your ina tight battle, just the downside is that your leveling up is relied on luck

So to say Overall Crisis core is definitly a worth playing game just getting used to the gameplay can be your decision, The Storyline, Great graphics, terrific voices and voice acting are all enough to get you to try it out, the gameplay is a change, but i reckon a change for the better

"Worthy prequel to a great RPG"
5 stars"

I'll admit that FFVII is my favourite game of all time, but I will review CC as its own game. Secondly, I have not actually finished the game yet (I'm in the last dungeon). I have completed 44% of the side missions.

The characters are well fleshed out, even if the existence of Genesis and Angeal were concealed until CC came along.

The battle system is reminiscent of KH, with running around areas, performing actions in semi-real-time battles. Navigation of the battle menu is performed with the L and R buttons. The DMW reels take a while to get your head around, but once you get a few characters on there, it's great getting random pick-me-ups on the battlefield.

One familiar feature, that I'm sure many will welcome back, is MATERIA. HELL YES.

Graphics speak for themselves, as probably the best on the PSP. The music, though fitting the mood really well, I feel is somewhat subpar, in relation to other FF games. To me it has that pop-rock X-2-esque feel to it, but it performs its function admirably.

I only have two issues with Crisis Core. One is the missions. While there is over 300, they're ALL THE SAME. They are literally just “go here, beat this monster”, and there are only a handful of recycled environments. The other issue would be the ‘random’ battles. They're not random at all. They're proximity-activated, so you can avoid most battles with ease. Although, while I find it annoying, it's also kind of handy :P

In closing, I have thoroughly enjoyed this game, and find it re-ignites the FFVII spark. Based on my experience so far, the main story could probably be finished in about 14–17 hours. Not quite a system seller, but definitely worth getting if you've got a PSP, or if you're a fan of FFVII.

Excellent game. Crisis core is a good game, it honor's FFVII's legacy. Let's hope they make a remake of the original. Can't wait for FFXIII and FFXIII Versus.

"awesome"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

i have only played a small bit of this game as my friend has it on his psp and i instantly loved it.

Although other people may say that it can get a bit repeatable in the side missions of the game, personally i don't really mind as everyone knows that in final fantasy games you must train. As such i think it is awesome that there is some sort of alternate way to train rather than just running around in the same place for ages

"Was not dissapointed"
5 stars"

For gamers of any ability – this game is fantastic, graphics are amazingly clear and very straight forward. Its keeping in with the story the voices are even the same for the more important characters which is fantastic as well, nothing more annoying than new voice actors.

I'm not much of a gamer – but I found myself staying up far too late playing this game it was one of the most enjoyable games I have played for some time and definitely worth the money I saved to purchase it – I wasn't disappointed.

Its a super mega cool good pressie if you got that annoying tweenie or schoolie to buy for. Merry Christmas – may you get all those violent games you asked santa for. <3

"Worth every cent"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

this game is undoubtedly worth every single cent i paid for it!!!!!! first off the graphics are awesome and very high quality, the storyline is easily followed, and the character Zack is exactly how i imagined him.

the battle sequences flow nicely and the limit break and leveling up are different from what your used to compared to other final fantasy games but it adds more variety to your options. the soundtrack to the game is awesome and really fits in with the game. the games style reminds me of final fantasy XII and the Kingdom hearts games so it doesnt take long to adapt to the style.

I would definately recommend this game to any avid final fantasy fan with a psp and i seriously hope they decide to remake final fantasy VII and i also can't wait for the next final fantasy installment for the playstation franchise. A+++

"A must buy for the PSP System"
5 stars"

This game is amazing. I bought the japanese version and it was so good.

The graphics (the general display) is really good with the smooth textures and great detail into the sorroundings.

The soundtrack could be a hit all by itself. The songs have lots of emotion and bring to life certain stages of the game.

There are a huge veriety of enemies for certain stages as well, all having their pro's and con's.

Because the game was in japanese I didn't understand much but I will try best to explain how great the gameplay is. The game gives you three spells fire, water, and electric ( not sure if that spoiled it for anybody) and one special attack and i think a healing move. You also have the ability to combine some spells or something, anyway I hope this has helped you decide.

Also at parts of the game there are amazing high definition clips which are really cool.

I won't tell you anymore so as not to spoil it for anyone.

Thankyou

"Disappointing"
3 stars"

I purchased the game when it first came out in the US as I was excited to see a tie-in game with FF7. However, I was really disappointed with several aspects of the game. There are of course a lot of cons to this game such as graphics and character design etc, but after playing through about 5 hours, I've come to notice some flaws as well –

First of all, the gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. The worst thing I can think of is that you character levels up through sheer luck rather than experience and skill. Levelling up is governed by a slot machine (DMV) which is also responsible for various positive status effects and materia level up. However, your character will only level up when the three slots read 777. So no matter how hard you try to increase your level, it all boils down to pure luck.

The other thing I did not like was the character itself. I always thought that Zack, as potrayed in FF7 was a well rounded character – both mature and sensible. However the Zack in this game is annoying, immature and childish. Not like a member of SOLDIER at all. Unfortunately, he behaves very much like Tidus from FFX. As such, you dont really get a feel for the character as much and you can expect to cringe a lot during all the cheesy conversations he comes up with.

This is the second spin-off FF7 game I'm played (after Dirge of Cerberus) and I must say that they didnt really do it justice. This is just another case of Square Enix not listening to fans. Again, there are lots of good points about the game but these are the two main things that I found really disappointing.

"Exceeded all my expectations "

This game was excellent! I am a fan of the final fantasy 7 series and love that they have done the FF7 compilation to increase the World and story of some of the most memorable characters in gaming history.

Once starting the game you are treated to some of the most gorgeous cut senses which and start your way up through the shirna company to be solider first class.

The gameplay is great with a whole new battle system with an easy learning curve. All of the new characters are great and it really is good to see Zacks as the lead character. I started playing this game on Normal which I found to easy with no need to think about a strategy at all which makes all of the items and armor really pointless because a few swings of the buster swords and the enemies are defeated. About the second chapter I decided to replay the game through the difficulty level hard. This I found more enjoyable experience because of the greater challenge it provided

Over all great game with huge amount of extra content with all of the extra missions you can complete.

"The game is good, but..."
4 stars"

Lets get the good out of the way first. This is one hell of a cinematic experience… both the in-game cut sequences and the cgi rentered sequences are amazing. The characters are actually quite likable, the story is interesting, and the visual design and character/enemy models and other graphics are all at the cutting edge. The combat is also quite nicely done, much more than a button masher – as you progress, juggling your attacks and defences can by quite challenging.

The down side – the environments are ugly, especially in the side missions.. but more importantly, the side missions themselves are very boring and unimaginative. Literally each side mission is a case of ‘go to the end of the corridor, fight a boss’.. there is no real motivation to go through these as they dont add anything to the core game, aside from the hope you might actually get some good items – and THIS is where most of the gameplay in crisis core is. The story is incredibly short AND very very easy… an enjoyable game with high production values, but very very little meat too it.
