man this is the grandaddy of all Animation, its nothing I've ever thought was possible, the graphics are amazing the music it brillient and Cloud's sword is massive. I havn't played the game before so trying to understand the storyline was differcult at times. But probably up there in the top 10 anime for sure

"One To Watch!"
5 stars"

Advent Children in its original form is far from a great film. For the uninitiated, Advent Children was an impossible-to-follow film that relied too much on the legacy of the Final Fantasy VII anthology. That being said what they do with fight scenes, the swapping from fast paced action shots to slo-mo dodges an more. Coming together with stunningly gorgeous graphics. Even if you have trouble following it, watch it again. Cos you won't be happy if you don't [:

"Incredible"
5 stars"

Gorgeous graphics, but the storyline is incredibly hard to follow sometimes. Some of the fight scenes were a little too quick – hard to keep up with everything that was happening, but plenty of awesome slo-mo shots to keep everyone happy.

My non-FF-playing family/friends don't like it so much cos the action is wildly un-realistic (gravity defying leaps and Cloud's enormous sword) – but if you played the game, you'll love the movie.

Everything about this movie rocks. Awesome graphics, awesome characters, awesome style and revolutionary action scenes. Belongs in everyone's movie collection. I can't stop watching it.

I went ape when i saw this movie on a dvd stand at a local supermarket!!! Did i go home immediately to watch?? Hell yeah!! If you have a superb knowledge of the game, then you can totally connect with all the basic elements of the Final Fantasy series, or in this case VII- the characters and their skills, summons, locations, enemies, e.t.c. If not, just go with it and enjoy the action!! From that familiar scene at the beginning (come on, you must know!- its the absolute end scene of the game itself;D), to the fight scenes, to the awesome graphics, to the summons, to the characters, to the inevitable comeback of you-know-who, this game is a MUST ‘for (all) those who find friendly company therein… this reunion is for you’

"Simply amazing"
5 stars"

Just… wow.

The CGI is incredible – screenshots do NOT do this movie justice – the music is superb, and we get to see all our fave chars from FFVII again…

It focuses on Cloud Strife, the main character from FFVII, and finished off his story nicely. Sure, the dialogue is a little cheesy in places (I only take real exception to one line in the movie which had me pounding my fist on the ground, moaning ‘why…why…’), but for the most part it's great. The CGI is breathtaking – you forget you're watching an animated movie. Everything moves perfectly, nothing jars…

As someone who has played and knows well the story and characters of the original PS1 game Final Fantasy VII, I understood most of this movie fairly well (though the plot still needs a few watchings to understand… but hey, a good excuse to watch this gorgeous movie again) but if you have never played the game, you'll find it tough. It gives a brief background but I watched this movie with a friend and at the end, she turned to me, and asked, “So who was that scary one with the long sword? What did he want with… um… Cloud, is that right? That's his name, isn't it? Yeah. And what's up with him and Tifa? And who were all those random people fighting that giant thing? I don't get it.”

But she did admit that the whole thing was watchable because of the CGI alone. Which leads me to say that I recommend this movie for anyone… especially the fans of FFVII. Don't even think about the catastrophy that was Spirits Within. You… will… enjoy… this… movie!!

"*is speechless*"

When I first bought the DVD, I didnt know what to expect. Prior to watching it, FF7 wasnt my favourite game in the series, mainly because the ending was left completely open. So, anyway I watched the film, and instead of just turning off the DVD player…I went back and watched it again…and then again…and again. Seriously this film is quality. Ok, the stories a bit dodgy, and yes some of the dialogue is cheesy, but its light years ahead of most of the other action films with dealt with over the last few years. At the end of the day, it was impossible to cram a true Final Fantasy story into 101 minutes, so you just have to accept it for what it is – a reunion of the Final Fantasy 7 team, with about 5 brilliant action sequences and a 100 minute excuse to have Cloud fight Sephiroth again. Buy it now!

"Coolest Movie Ever!"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Advent Children is an excellent film. It follows the hugely successful game, FF7, so it had a lot to live up to. This movie rocks – a bit hard to follow, my fellow watchers thought – but they had not played much of the game before hand. I am very glad that I pre-ordered this movie because it is so damn cool. Amazing graphics and a definate overall rating of 5/5.

"Watch it and be amazed!"

When Final Fantasy 7 hit stores it was an instant classic with a great cast of characters and an incredible storyline that has left players begging for more. This sequal to the maga blockbuster was always going to be met with great anticipation. The good news is that Advent Children does not dissapoint.

The basic storyline is summerized in the film so if you've forgotten what the game was about it should give you a refresher. All your favourite cherecters return, making it feel like a reunion of old freinds.

The CGI is polished and well presented. Fast and complex action scenes so intense you will be on the edge of your seat – and I do mean that!

So even you've never even played the game this film is worth your money.

"I haven't played Final Fantasy 7" Purchased on Mighty Ape

I have played other Final Fantasy games (FFI,FFX,FFVIII,FXI) but I haven't played seven, although after seeing this movie I'm going to buy it. I did know a little bit about the story line of the original game from what I heard from friends, so that did make a difference to my enjoyment of the film.

Some say that this film is over hyped – most of the hype has come from fans of the game, or at least people who have played other games in the series. And they're hyped for a reason, because they love Final Fantasy. If you haven't played the game, you might still enjoy the movie, but don't say the movie's bad if you don't enjoy it. That's just like buying a romance movie when you like action movies. Don't expect it to be like all the mainstream hollywood junk.

The story is a bit confusing if you have not played the game, and most of the movie (around 80%) is battles so it does leave little room for the story – but I think Square pulled it off well.

In the special features documentary the designers say they chose not to make this movie photo realistic because then it wouldn't be like Final Fantasy 7, and they might as well use live actors. And they chose to do CG because then they could do things that had never been done before (thats what FF is about) and have cameras in impossible places and have characters do insane things.

Nobuo Uematsu is the king of game music, and his work on this movie meets the same standard. I feel this is one of the best movie soundtracks ever, and I plan to buy the CD.

This movie looks cool, sounds great, it is Final Fantasy! (not like silly Spirits Within).

"Loving it :-)"
5 stars"

Had seen the first FF movie many years ago & had enjoyed it & introduced my son to it. He in turn has since brought this movie & watches it often. I half watched it the first time & have to say I'm hooked, have become a big fan of Cloud, his broody character, that belies the life he has led to date & how he deals with it all.. if he was real he'd be very attractive to many women & I'd be one of them!! Have since ordered my own Limited Edition copy to enjoy. Sadly I'm not a fan of games or gaming, so will just enjoy the movie & hear more about the games from my son, no doubt! :-)

As another review stated, it can become addictive!!

"I prefer the Japanese version"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This movie is awsome, and is a must see for anyone who even played the original game. The CGI even makes the giant monkey from the new King kong film look primitive (mind the pun).

After watching the “making of” extra, you'll realise how much effort the voice actors of the japanese version put into making the characters sound believable, but when i watched the movie in english, i hung my head in shame. They totally stereotyped all the characters with corny accents, and some of the new dialog killed the meaning of what they were saying.

I truly reccomend purchasing this DVD, as a collectors item and as a great film, but watch it in japanese with subtitles. It is much more enjoyable.

"Somebody shoot Hollywood...."
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

It's been over two years since I began having an affair with the potential of movie action scenes. The Matrix, Spiderman, all rubbish. Crouching tiger came close, but THIS is the only film that knew what it was doing, and is the first movie to score on what every other film failed to do (not to say every othe movie sucks though). For that, I give it a 5 star, regardless of the excruciatingly cheesy dialogue and slightly dented plot. Action scenes were like the lost art of the worlds film industry until now, and this movie is like what awakened that lost art just so that people like me could feel a little more fulfilled :P.

One of the problems I had with the action were the consistant close ups. Though they barely hinder the potential intensity of the fights, I would have gone for just the medium shots that show both character's forms, then you can incorperate a lot more fast paced spinning, flipping and general kicking butt, and works like magic. The other specific problem is more of a MV maker issue-the use of the AC One Winged angel song, had I been coreographing it, I definately would have changed a few things, but all in all it was still the best damn sword fight in the history of film making, full stop.

This movie is not something you rent.

"Good but not Great"
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

As everyone else has said, The animation is awesome. The story is however lacking. It's a good movie but certainly not a great movie. There's plenty of room for improvement here and the story / movie certainly could have been a lot better. Also some of the music seems like it was added just so it could be part of the movie, when it really didn't fit with the scene at all. Certainly much better than the original Final Fantasy movie but this could have been great if they'd make it 2–3 hrs and followed a story through and immerse you with the characters. Your thrown into a story with flash backs here and there, don't get to know much about the characters apart from Cloud and then it's over before you know it.

"Ok, but not worth the hype"
2 stars"

After seeing FF VII Advent Children I was very disappointed. There is far too much going on to actually follow a storyline. The rolling of the camera most the time is enough alone to make you nauseous, you hardly have enough time to realise what is going on in a shot before it cuts to another, and another. There is hardly any character development as they have tried to fit far too many characters into the movie, and even with the english dialogue, you're left most the time wondering who is talking or what's going on (thanks to the endless cuts and odd angles). At least in the game you can take your time to read a character's dialogue before you press ‘X’

I have liked every final fantasy game I have ever played because I think they are the best type of games out there. Then I found this DVD and was super excited to see my favorite game made into an awesome movie. This is a quality movie that I think most people would really enjoy.

Haven't really followed the Final Fantasy world but this movie was great. Weird story but interesting and great animation/CGI.

"Oh my god."

I had to remind myself that the characters and sets aren't real because the animation is amazing, it's so detailed, it looks almost real most of the time. Incredible graphics and storyline, I really recommend it for all FF fans. Made me tear up a little at times, but I still can't stop watching it! A really great movie.

A must for ff7 fans

"Hard to follow"
4 stars"

For anyone who want's to watch this movie I sugest playing Final Fantasy Seven the game on PlayStation first because this movie takes place two years after the game and if your not a real fan of the Final Fantasy series you will find it hard to follow this movie. As a Final Fantasy fan I would have to say it's worth the watch if your a fan too :-)

"Break-through for all CGI movies."
5 stars"

Quite simply a master piece with amazing sense to detail. A must have for any Final Fantasy fan. Amazing graphics and effects. The voice actors fit the characters perfectly. And Steve Burton does an excellent rendition of the loner hero Cloud Strife. The movie finds itself carrying on two years after the final battle with Sephiroth in the game, Final Fantasy VII. The story line revolves around the concept of a reunion, of course involving Sephiroth and Cloud forgiving himself for the loss of his friend. The fight scenes themselves make this movie a must see. Highly recommended.

"It's alright"
4 stars"

I'll admit from the start, no I haven't played Final Fantasy 7 so that is probably why I don't quite get this film but I do see why people who have seen it would love it so much. It brings back all the old characters but now fully fleshed (CGI-ed?) and all which is pretty damn impressive too. The visual effects are top notch as are all Final Fantasy related things and the battles are simply amazing. The story I must admit I didn't really pick up but I'm guessing Final Fantasy 7 fans will. =)

A good movie but don't expect a classic.

"Final Fantasy 7 is back and better than ever "
5 stars"

If Led Zeppelin were the fathers of rock then Final Fantasy 7 was the father of video games, and for those of us who have been dreaming of the sequel since the late nineties, well let me tell you, Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children will be beyond your wildest expectations. Cloud Strife and friends return in a graphically crisp, wonderfully woven story that will enthral long time fans and new comers to the series alike. FF7: Advent Children is a movie I would recommend to everybody as it can be enjoyed by anyone at any age.
