"1850s vampire story by writer of Game of Thrones series."

This was written in 1982, and is nothing like the Game of Thrones series. It is a vampire story, with plenty of violence, set amongst riverboats on the Mississippi, with a clearly drawn and interesting historical setting (slaves, race issues, the river trade). An odd combination, and you'd have to like both sorts of stories, but written well.

George R. R.
