Description

Sol Yurick's cult novel, originally published in 1966, blasts the American judicial system and society in general. It was called 'one of the fiercest and most effective satires to come out of America in a decade' by The Spectator. Although written before his debut published novel The Warriors (1965), like that work, Fertig was eventually made into a movie-The Confession (1999) starring Ben Kingsley. It is now available for the first time in over three decades. -- .

Author Biography:

Sol Yurick (1925-2013) was a left-wing, radical writer in America at a time when such men were not appreciated for their talents. Best known as the author of The Warriors, he wrote three great novels of social realism in the 1960s which demonstrated his flair for satire and acid-sharp observation about the social structure of his home city, New York. As the Guardian wrote in his obituary, 'no writer more fully embodied the city's anguished spirit in the 1960s'. Before becoming a writer, Sol worked in the department of welfare in New York. He was later heavily involved in anti-Vietnam protests, worked with Students For A Democratic Society and was closely associated with leading members of the Weather Underground. -- .
