Description

Rev. Dr. Woodrow I. Brown, the author and my father, has given over 60 years to the Lord's work as pastor and teacher. Born in 1918 on a hill farm in southern Ohio, He attended Wilmington College on scholarship and graduated from what is now Davis College after WWII. He was ordained in the Baptist church in 1948 and was awarded a Doctorate in Christian Education in 1982. He and his bride of over 65 years now live in Dunnsville VA across the road from their daughter Anita. Their other five children, Mary, Lois, David, Becky, and I are scattered around the country along with 20 grandchildren and a growing number of greats and great-greats. It may be that the success my father has known in ministry results from his being as gentle a man as can be found. His ministry has been built upon a firm belief in God's love, His plan of salvation, and the authority of Scripture. A practical man, to him every problem has a rational solution, as this short collection illustrates. These essays, perhaps sermonettes, first appeared as attachments to e-mails sent to family and friends. When we learned that other pastors and Sunday school teachers were using them as inspiration for sermons and lessons, we decided publishing them would make them available to a wider audience. It is God's providence that Joyce Lamphier of Augusta WV had the foresight to archive and preserve, as my father terms them with characteristic humility, his "drivels." The 52 pieces contained between these covers are intriguing, challenging, often comforting, at times unsettling, but always thought provoking examinations of God's word. Notwithstanding the author's whimsical description of these pieces, they are clearly the product of afine mind which has been deeply steeped in the Bible. Open and enjoy.
