Description

This manual provides insights into the theory and practical aspects of several biotechnological and biochemical techniques for plants, protozoa, nematodes, insects and fishes, as well as human samples. The book also covers bioinformatics tools. The manual is an inclusive compilation, explaining techniques for microbial cultures, their diagnostics, DNA barcoding, microscopic techniques, blood analysis, parasite diagnostics through copro-antigens, enzyme analysis with enzyme kinetics, gene expression analysis, in-vivo protein visualization in live animals, geno-toxicity assays, quantification of micro RNAs and LncRNAs in tissue sections, the use of droplet PCR, and in-silico analysis. It provides step-by-step descriptions and details of each methodology, together with the final outcomes and inferences, in a simple and lucid manner, easily reproducible even for beginners. The broad range of techniques covered makes this volume extremely useful in understanding the principles of biotechniques, and simple applications for practical courses.                 

Author Biography:

Prof. Neelima Gupta, M.Sc. Gold Medalist, M.Phil., Ph.D. in 1981 (Zoology) from the AMU, Aligarh, obtained her D.Sc. degree (Animal Science) from the MJP Rohilkhand University, Bareilly in 2012.  Presently working as Vice Chancellor of CSJM University, Kanpur, India since 2018.  Recipient of the Ek Janaki Ammal National Award for Animal Taxonomy (Ministry of Environment & Forests), Highest State Award, Saraswati Samman and Centre of Excellence (Government of UP), Vigyan Ratna Award (Council of Science & Technology, UP).  Has worked extensively on parasite taxonomy, aquatic toxicology of the Ramganga and Ganga Rivers, and fish health.  Nominated by the British Council, DST and INSA in various academic programs. Dr. Varsha Gupta received her Ph.D (Life Sciences) from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, in 2003. She then joined the National Centre for Plant Genome Research, New Delhi, for her post-doctoral training on plant genomics.  Presently working at Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur since 2006.  She has done extensive work on molecular diagnostics using genomic and proteomic approaches, and has published several research articles and one textbook on “Basic and Applied Aspects of Biotechnology”.
