Description

A practical, responsible guide to online business opportunities Web services capitalize on the prediction that companies will continue to buy their information technologies as services over the Internet, rather than owning and maintaining their own hardware and software. Eric Marks and Mark Werrell's Untangling Web Services addresses the skeptical executive, explaining that unlike past promises of Internet glory, Web services offer a practical path to significant cost savings as well as new opportunities for collaboration among companies. Picking up where the Executive's Guide to E-Business left off, this book accessibly explains what Web services are and how they can make a company more competitive. It provides summaries of developing standards, summarizes current vendor positions (Microsoft, Novell, IBM, Oracle, Sun), and provides industry examples of Web services solutions and benefits. Eric Marks (Newbury Port, MA) is Vice President of Market Development at StreamServe Americas. StreamServe is a provider of business communication software. Its solutions enable companies to manage, personalize, and automate the flow of critical business information between its customers, suppliers, and eMarketplaces. Mark Werrell (Watertown, MA) is the Consulting Director for the New England region for Cambridge Technology Partners.
