Description

Two families: one white, one black. One family escapes the oppression of 19th-century slavery; the other seeks refuge from the oppression of nature gone wrong. They meet in the wilds of Oregon, in a world far different from the places of their origins. Hope is a strong, vivacious girl, open to friendships and willing to accept all. Joshua is the black teen who becomes her best friend, even though her family does not wish it. When Hope goes blind from scarlet fever, Joshua is instrumental in finding help for her, and Elijah and Mia pave the way for a relationship that spans the centuries. A few years pass, and now Joshua comes to Hope's aid again, when it seems there is a way to regain her sight. When their relationship blooms into something more serious, it turns out that the ones who are truly blind are those who let racism stand in the way of love. Set in 1800s Oregon, Hope's journey has her meeting historical figures such as Oregon Senator George Baldwin and Mr. William Clark (Montana's Copper King) and is a story that will surpass the limitations of prejudice.

Author Biography:

Amanda Marie was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Like any other female growing up in the '90s she is a fan of artists like Backstreet Boys, Five, Aaron Carter, Nick Carter, and AJ McLean. She started writing when she was in junior high and from there went to write many "Fan Fictions" (still online today) and some of her own original stories. Amanda spent a year living in Brookings, Oregon with her newfound sister and spent time on the local community stages. She spends her free time listening to music and watching Ghost Adventures and Castle. She also likes to rockhunt. She currently lives in Klamath Falls with her two children, dog, mother, and disabled grandmother while she works on her writing career. Amanda has a degree in business management and just received her Master's degree in Creative Writing at Full Sail University in 2012. She hopes to use what she learns to teach at a college or high school level and also to bring her books to life on the big screen. She had the opportunity to be an extra in the film Redwood Highway starring Shirley Knight, Tom Skerritt, and James LeGros. Redwood Highway is available for purchase on Amazon.
