The second "Epitaph" book, this volume collects together stories from the second and third TV series of the same name. The book gives the background information to some intriguing historical stories from around the country. Many of these stories have been inspired by epitaphs in graveyards, and then researchers have uncovered and investigated them. There are 25 stories in the book, ranging from tales of desperate romance to horrifying rage. Some of the subjects are well-known New Zealanders while others are complete unknowns. But one common theme runs through all the stories - they are all insights into the New Zealand of times past.
