Description

Grenada's Bianca C, Martinique's Roraima, British Virgin Island's Rhone, USVI's Wit Shoal, Aruba's Antilla, Bonaire's Windjammer... these are some of the most spectacular historic shipwrecks of the Caribbean. Bursting with colour, underwater fauna adorn these large metallic vessels. The glistening light from the surface transforms these wrecks into sunken cathedrals. On board their sailboat, the diving duo of Cathy Salisbury and Dominique Serafini search out and explore these legendary vessels. Through their paintings, photography and stories, they capture the mysterious beauty of these shipwrecks for scuba divers and non-divers alike.

Author Biography:

Born and raised in Montreal, CANADA, Cathy graduated in 1986 with a Bachelors in Fine Arts in film and photography from Concordia University. Cathy has been publishing newspapers, magazines and books for over 35 years now. She published alternative city newsweeklies in both Montreal and Halifax. Covering what the mainstream press ignored was a passion that she pursued for many years. She started scuba diving in her late 20s, but once she put her head under the water, all she wanted to do was discover and explore this wonderful liquid world. In 1999, she arrived in Bonaire where she met her life and diving partner, Dominique. They have collaborated on all kinds of creative projects to do with our undersea world, including books, a tv series and many exhibits of their painting and photography. Through their creative works, they try to show people how magical a place the underwater world is and they hope to inspire others to love it as much as they do. From Ile Saint Louis, Paris, FRANCE, Dominique has a degree in Fine Arts from Ecole de Beaux-Arts de Paris from 1968. Many years later, in 1983, he actualized his childhood dream - he boarded Calypso to create a series of graphic novels with Jacques-Yves Cousteau. This series of 17 books were inspired by the missions of the Cousteau team around our blue planet. Dominique continues to work defending the marine environment, with the likes of Paul Watson (Sea Shepherd), Jean-Michel Cousteau (Ocean Futures) and Patrick Deixonne (Expédition 7e Continent). With his drawings, paintings and graphic novels, Dominique shares his fascination for the underwater world with children, inciting them to respect and defend it.
