Description

"Devon: An Artist Explores, The Coast From Torbay to the Axe Estuary" is a unique guide to the coast of Lyme Bay, exploring the history, character, geography and places of interest on one of England's most fascinating stretches of coast. This whole book is hand drawn by Devon artist Paul Snowdon; hand written text winds between more than 180 pen and ink illustrations, portraits, views and maps to recreate the character of the coast in a series of double page spreads. Starting on the spectacular viewpoint of Berry Head, Chapter 1 explores Torbay - not just the three towns of Brixham, Paignton and Torquay but also the history of the many coves and headlands between them. Striking north from Hope's Nose, Chapter 2 follows the high and geologically significant cliffs to the Teign estuary, after which the South Devon Railway forms the sea wall to Dawlish Warren.Chapter 3 traces the Exe Estuary north, along the Exeter Canal to the ancient port of Exeter, with a brief foray to see the Catherdral and the ancient City Walls. The Jurassic Coast of East Devon forms Chapter 4, taking in its genteel resorts through to Seaton and the Axe Estuary. Paul Snowdon is an enthusiastic amateur artist with a long history of illustrating both books and newspapers. A one time sales manager of a large food manufacturing company, Paul now owns a busy Sandwich Bar in the centre of Paignton with his partner Liz, which allows time to walk the Devon coast with their three seemingly tireless dogs. Paul (52) has three children, all grown up who work in America, London and Southampton. This book is brought to life by Reardon Publishing, with whom Paul has a long association, and will be sold into the bookselling trade by Paul Snowdon himself, which will - he believes - make a pleasant change from 25 years of selling chilled food to the major supermarkets! This work is by the artist Paul Snowdon and published by Nicholas Reardon of Reardon Publishing.
