Unofficially credited to master filmmaker Don Siegel (The Shootist, Dirty Harry), Death Of A Gunfighter tells the story of Marshal Frank Patch (Richard Widmark, The Alamo), an old-style lawman in a town facing change. When Patch accidentally kills a drunken reveller in self-defence, the town leaders ask for his resignation and place him on the outer circle. Having left his indelible mark on the community for 20 years and tamed the frontier town for the better, Patch is not easily pushed aside and decides to stake his claim as the rightful sheriff of Cottonwood Springs and defend his name to the bitter end. Also featuring Lena Horne, Carroll O'Connor and John Saxon, Death Of A Gunfighter is a gritty ride through a city with dark secrets around the outskirts of the law.
