Description

A beautifully written new crime thriller you won’t want to miss! In a quiet village, darkness is closing in… A rural paradise… Detective Jake Jackson moved to the countryside for a quieter life. And he finally seems to have his wish – spending his days immersed in nature, and his evenings lazing by the fire. A terrifying secret… But the return of an old case shatters the calm, and pulls him into the shadowy world of a secretive group serving the extravagant whims of the elite. An enemy closes in… As the web around Jake tightens, he must determine who he can really trust in his small community. Or else he will learn just how far the elite will go to protect their secrets. Praise for Death in a Lonely Place ‘Loved this. Multiple layers of delight for crime fiction fans’ Lee Child, creator of Jack Reacher ‘Abell is a skilled storyteller and it’s easy to fall into the pages of Death in a Lonely Place. Highly recommend’ Karin Slaughter, creator of Will Trent 'What a joy to spend time with these characters again! An immersive, intelligent delight with huge atmosphere and heart. My favourite new crime series' Lucy Foley, author of The Paris Apartment 'A truly fiendish conspiracy, a heroic ex-police officer with a turbulent love life, multiple references to classic crime writing and utterly beautiful descriptive prose that brings Jake Jackson's world to life: it's hard to think of a more enjoyable combination of elements for crime-fiction lovers’ Jane Casey, author of the Maeve Kerrigan series ‘A darkly elegant, thrilling, escapist slice of countryside crime. I adore this series’ Chris Whitaker, author of We Begin at the End ‘A wonderful tale, magnificently told’ Sam Holland, author of The Echo Man ‘Like fine wine, the series gets better and better as it develops. The narrative carries you along like a runaway train. Beautifully written, as ever, and with a twist that truly knocked me sideways’ Andrew Taylor, author of The Ashes of London 'Very recommendable' Financial Times

Author Biography:

Stig Abell loves detective novels above any other literature, films, plays or television. This is the first one he has actually written. Away from books, he presents the breakfast show on Times Radio, a station he helped to launch in 2020. Before that he was a regular presenter on Radio 4's Front Row and was the editor and publisher of the Times Literary Supplement. At one time or another he has written for almost every newspaper in Britain, and one or two in America as well. He lives in London with his wife, three children and two independent-minded cats called Boo and Ninja (his children named them, obviously).
