Description

By: George C. Mason, Pub. 1949, reprinted 2021, 162 pages, Index, soft cover, ISBN #0-89308-737-8. The parish of Lynnhaven encompasses the whole of the county of Princess Anne. Princess Anne county was created from the eastern third of Lower Norfolk County in 1691, These boundaries ran from the lower reaches of the Chesapeake Bay going South to the North Carolina State line along the Atlantic Ocean. These coastal counties were a great source of migration of early pioneers headed West. These minutes of the vestry contain 5,000 individuals either as Vestry members or as those who had been appointed to possession land of property owners, apprentice young people to others in the parish for training in crafts or livelihoods, binding out young slaves for training, clothing and feeding and general care and welfare of the poor in their midst.
