Description

Born in the town of Sangre Grande, Trinidad, Johnny Coomansingh has authored the books: "Sweet and Sour Trinidad and Tobago," "Show Me Equality," and "Seven Years on Adventist Street." Emerging from a colonial past, he explores and writes about the rich culture of the country. As a cultural geographer, he has found that Trinidad and Tobago provides fertile ground for a writer; a literal cornucopia of stories, folktales, histories, musical genres, and creativity. He holds a doctoral and a master's degree in geography from Kansas State University and a master's degree in communication science from Fort Hays State University, Kansas. In Trinidad, he has served as a high school teacher, an agricultural extension agent, and a corporate communications practitioner in the petroleum industry. In the United States he worked as a university professor in the field of geography and tourism. Coomansingh enjoys playing the cuatro, singing calypso, and writing poetry.
