The first SU-85 reached operation in August 1943, just in time for the exploitation of the Kursk victory on the Eastern Front.
It was later replaced by the SU-100, a more heavily armed vehicle.
The SU-85 fought actively in Korea and in Vietnam and, later, converted to an auxiliary vehicle. In 1990, it was still operational in some central European countries (Albania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Romania.)
