Description

'There's a moment on the turn of the tide when the world stands still...' Set among the wild, atmospheric hills and coasts of north-eastern England, where nature holds sway as much as any man or woman, Cliffington looks like a rural idyll, but is not immune to the events of the world. A story of trial and obsession, of love and hope, Cliffington reveals the strength and frailties of the people and tests their community to the edge of failure. It is a world apart and yet still torn by the trauma, distress and destruction of wars in distant lands. While always, close at hand, the sea rolls on relentless. Enter Cliffington and follow the tales of disparate women whose lives entwine, thrown together in a drama both deep and wide as they hold firm when doubt inhabits their world. Touch the minds of men sad, anguished, cruel and gentle who walk with uncertainty across their world, always searching for tomorrow and for peace. Cliffington is an epic novel, a romance, a mystery, a tragedy and a saga that leads you through a complex society where the characters inhabit a convincing landscape in a story that builds into a glorious crescendo with man pitched against his greatest enemy: himself, while women prove their strength is greater and all the while, nature is ever present, ever the real power surrounding us all.

Author Biography

Stephen Morley lives and works in the South of England. He has published three novels in recent years, but has been writing and composing for over forty years. Stephen's first book, The Follower was written for his son some seventeen years ago. Stephen says: "Music and the British countryside have always been strong influences in my life and I have brought them together in my novel Moses Trod. I have walked more miles than I can remember and I know all the areas described in my books. I love the many long paths that traverse the hills and valleys of north eastern England, the location for my latest novel, Cliffington." Stephen is also an enthusiastic musician and songwriter with a love of guitars and other fretted folk instruments. He believes that music crosses boundaries and joins people whatever their beliefs.
