Containing approximately 2,000 cross-referenced entries, ""Chronology of Science"" spans the course of history to provide readers with an intriguing look at scientific events and inspire them to investigate further. Entries are clearly categorized into core areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, marine science, space and astronomy, Earth science, and weather and climate. Readers will come away with not only accurate information about scientific history, but also a sense of how scientific discoveries build upon events of the past and how theories change over time. Introductory and closing essays in each section put the events in context, interesting sidebars expand upon important concepts in each time period, and appendixes direct readers to further information on specific topics. Other useful features include figure legends, a bibliography, and an index. The coverage includes: Setting the Foundation: Science in Antiquity Through the First Century BCE; Expanding Knowledge: First Century CE - 13th Century CE; Science in the Renaissance (1300-1632); Building the Base of Modern Science (1636-1759); Science in the Age of Revolutions (1760-1850); Science Expands as the World Grows Smaller (1851-1899); New Theories and Old (1900-1945); Science in the Post-Atomic World (1946-1979); and, The Expansion of Science in the Information Age (1980-2007).
