The story of Scotsman John Ross and his Cherokee friend Sequoyah, who tried to stop the American Government removal of the Cherokee Nation, from Georgia to Oklahoma. In May 1838, federal troops and state militia units, supervised by General Winfield Scott, rounded up the Cherokee, who refused to accept the Indian Removal Act, and forced them to make a one-thousand-mile journey across America, to a reservation in Oklahoma. This heroic journey is known as 'The Trail of Tears.
