A one-of-a-kind cinematic vision
Carmen flees her home in Mexico and attempts a dangerous and illegal border crossing, which turns violent. She is rescued by Aidan, and together they struggle to evade the authorities as they head for Los Angeles and a new life.
Critics Reviews:
- “Britell’s score super-juices the tragic pall over the film, while Barrera and Mescal channel Romeo and Juliet as the star-crossed lovers who communicate mostly in looks and the occasional pas de deux.” – Kimberley Jones (Austin Chronicle)
- “Loosely based on Georges Bizet’s eponymous opera, this film revels in stylistic excesses that are always creative and often exhilarating.” – Odie Henderson (Boston Globe)
- “You’ll see lots of movies in 2023, and you’ll forget most of them. But “Carmen” is so sincerely passionate and peculiar that you’re bound to remember it.” – Mick LaSalle (San Francisco Chronicle)
