Description

This is the definitive edition of Canadian Born, American Made, Volume 1. The author has painstakingly gone through all of his old manuscripts, notes, and scratch papers to come up with a complete volume of his memoirs from 1964 through his coming of age as a young and free Floridian in 1978. Find out how a child of 7 moves down from Canada, land of the ice and snow, to Florida, the land of sunshine and beaches and surrounded by water on three sides. And just how long does it take for a Canadian to assimilate into American culture when he has no other choice but to adjust to a way of life so strikingly different from what he was used to? It's not all fun and games, but it's not all serious business either. You'll laugh, you'll think, you'll wonder, and you might even try to put yourself in the author's place as you drift back in time to life in Florida in the late '60's and early '70's.

Author Biography:

Richard Hughes was born in Toronto, Canada in May of 1958. His family moved to Florida in the winter of '66 with over two feet of snow on the ground. He and his brother never could figure out why anyone would want to leave their beloved homeland to go anywhere else, much less to a place where it never snows and there is no ice hockey. Florida seemed so boring at first, but out of necessity they finally adjusted and grew to love the place just like they had up north. Richard has enjoyed many hobbies since growing up in Florida; running, motocross racing, mountain biking, surfing, and now even ice hockey in Orlando, Florida. He has almost come full circle. Richard is married to a native born Floridian and has a daughter, a step-daughter, a stepson, and several grandchildren.
